Ogun State Workers commences Strike over workers welfare

As the seven day ultimatum letter issued to the state governor, Dapo by the organised labour expires today Monday, Ogun State workers would embark on indefinite industrial action strike.

Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun state chapter, Emmanuel Bankole who stated this over the weekend in Abeokuta, at the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, (LAWAN) annual workshop said that the action strike will commence after their parliament meeting this morning, stating that the meeting will determine the scope of the strike.

According to him, the governor has refused to say a word since the warning letter was issued to him on the June 21.

“We can not bear it any more. We may end up in strike action. We gave the governor two weeks warning strike nothing happened. And we gave him seven day which expires on Monday and as we speak no word from the governor. Our parliament meeting will determine our scope of the action strike,” he said.

The NLC Chairman disclosed that the action strike is as a result of 21 months unremitted deduction, implementation of Contributory Pension Scheme, unpaid Statutory Leave allowance of eight years, need to review pension, accumulated gratuity ranging from inadequate quarterly payment which is 500 million “Government should pay workers their gratuity so they can take their money while they are still alive,” he said.

He, however, disclosed that nothing will stop the planned strike today.
