The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all operators to reactivate all lines that were disconnected over the weekend in view of the short time available for consumers to undertake the verification of their NINs with their SIMs.
The commission made this known in a statement on Monday.
NCC in the statement said the decision was reached after considering the challenges the blockages have caused with a note that consumers are their priority.
Telecommunications operators in Nigeria during the weekend, blocked millions of lines from making and receiving calls as part of an effort to complete the process of linking subscribers’ National Identification Numbers (NIN) with their active SIMs.
The move was in line with the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) directive to bar all subscribers whose NINs have not been verified by July 31, 2024.
The deadline was extended April 15, 2024 to July 31, but, desipite the extension, many subscribers still have irregularities with their NIN-SIM link.
The commission in the statement told consumers that the reactivation is for a limited period to allow them to properly link their NIN to their SIM.
