The Lagos State Police Command has debunked reports of an impending cult-related clash in parts of the state, describing the claims as false and urging residents to remain calm.
In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP issued on Monday, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the command had taken proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order in areas mentioned in the viral message.
The statement from SP Adebisi reads:
“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to address the circulating message alleging a possible cult-related clash in some areas of the State, particularly Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and Ishaga axis, purportedly in retaliation for a reported incident.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond. Following the initial report of the incident, prompt deployment of police personnel and operational assets was carried out to all the mentioned locations and other adjoining communities.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has directed intensified patrols, strategic positioning of officers, and increased police visibility across the identified flashpoints to ensure the safety of lives and property. The areas are well secured, and adequate security coverage has been emplaced to deter any unlawful gatherings or activities.
“The Command therefore wishes to reassure members of the public that there is no cause for alarm. Residents are encouraged to go about their lawful duties without fear or apprehension, as the Police and other security agencies remain fully on ground and committed to maintaining peace and order.
“While the Command acknowledges the concerns raised, members of the public are advised to disregard unverified rumours capable of creating panic and instead rely on credible information from official sources. The Lagos State Police Command remains resolute in its duty to protect all residents and will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure that peace prevails across the State.”
