The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of Simeon Udofia Akpanudom as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.
Akpanudom’s elevation follows his recent promotion and decoration with the rank of AIG, marking another milestone in a distinguished policing career spanning over three decades. Until his new appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Anti-Fraud at the FCID Annex, Alagbon Close, Lagos.
With this new responsibility, AIG Akpanudom succeeds the IGP Olatunji Disu who held the position until his appointment as Nigeria’s no. 1 Police officer by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. He also previously worked closely with DIG Force CID Headquarters Abuja, DIG Margaret Ochalla when she served as AIG FCID Annex.
Born on August 4, 1967, in Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Calabar, alongside advanced and postgraduate qualifications in industrial safety, security, and strategic studies, including a Master’s degree from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
A seasoned officer with extensive operational, investigative, and administrative experience, AIG Akpanudom has served in various capacities across the country. His career trajectory includes roles as Divisional Police Officer in several commands, Area Commander in Calabar, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Anambra and Cross River States, and directing staff at the Police College, Ikeja. He also served in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, earning international recognition.
Akpanudom’s career has been decorated with several honours, including the Inspector-General’s Commendation (Sword of Honour) as Best All-Round Cadet ASP and a United Nations Medal. He is a member of several professional bodies and holds a PhD (Honoris Causa) in Leadership. He has attended numerous professional courses, including the Strategic Leadership Command Course and Higher Defence Management Course at the National Defence College, Abuja, where he was awarded Fellow status.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen investigative capacity and leadership at the FCID Annex, Alagbon, which is a critical investigative arm of the Nigeria Police Force.
