CP Jimoh, Lagos Command mourns death of DPO Festac, CSP Ngbaronye


The devastating event of the passing of DPO Festac Division, CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye has been announced.

The elegant and gallant Policewoman sadly passed away after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos State on Friday 24th October, 2025. She was until her death, the DPO of Festac division, Lagos, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.


She was a one-time Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO) for the Lagos State Police Command; DPO of Ilupeju division; DPO of Iponri division; Forensic officer at State CID, Panti; and Secretary to former Lagos CP, AIG Hakeem Odumosu (retd)


Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye who joined the Nigeria Police on 19th April 2010 as a member of Course 1 of 2010 was the best among many colleagues and the most senior in the staff college. She was known for her professionalism, discipline, community and media friendly approach, and commitment to duty throughout her sterling career in the Nigeria Police which made her earn many awards and recognitions both locally and internationally.


Her passing has thrown her family and friends into tears, her colleagues and subordinates in the Lagos State Police Command into deep sorrow, the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) and the entire media community into pains, as well as the residents of the Festac community into great sorrow.


According to the official press statement e-signed and released to NAOSNP by PPRO, Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye ‘was known for her diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty. Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities.’
‘The news of her demise came as a rude shock to the entire Command. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP OLOHUNDARE JIMOH and all officers and men of the Command commiserate with her family and aged mother on this irreparable loss. The CP has personally reached out to her husband and her elder brother, who is a priest, to extend the Command’s heartfelt condolences and support during this difficult time.’


Burial arrangements ‘for the truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity’ will be communicated in due course, SP Abimbola Adebisi concluded.
