President Bola Tinubu has given out another $100,000 (N150m) each to players of the Nigeria Basketball team known as D’Tigress. The coaches and technical crew members were, however, given $50,000 (N75m).
The largese is similar to what he gave the Super Falcons in July when they won the 2025 WAFCON.
Represented by Kashim Shettima at a reception held in honour of the team at the Aso Villa, the players and technical crew members were conferred with National Honours of OON, and a flat each.
D’Tigress were crowned champions of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket after defeating Mali in the final.
August 3, Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64 in the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket final in Abidjan, winning their fifth consecutive continental title.
The win qualified Nigeria for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany although the African champions will participate in the World Cup Qualifying Tournaments in March next year.
